What Is The Third Wave?

Alvin Toffler puts forward his "wave theory." The First Wave is the agrarian society which follows the hunter-gatherers. Following that is the Second Wave, which is described as industrial in nature and based on mass production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. Combined with standardization and centralization of power, and you end up with bureaucracy.

We've been there before, and are now moving into Toffler's Third Wave. Toffler calls this the post-industrial society. We call it the Information Age.

This Third Wave is still emerging, though the technological leaps of the past twenty years have made it all possible. The one-size-fits-all approach of standardization is falling by the side of the road, power is measured in terms of information, and manufacturing has given way to information processing as the primary economic activity.

In short, the masses are determining the flow of power. People now work from their homes and remote offices, telecommuting rather than being held captive by long commutes. The world runs 24/7, never ceasing its constant motion. Consumers demand answers now, not in two hours. Cell phones, e-mail, faxes and instant messaging keep people plugged in all the time.

The world has changed. MyThirdWave makes it possible for you to keep pace.
